What do we do? Officially the remit of the Community Council is

To ascertain, co-ordinate and express to the Local Authority, and to public authorities, the views of the community it represents, and to take such action in the interests of that community as appears to it to be expedient and practicable.

The Community Council meets on the first Tuesday of every Month excepting July and January, at 7.30 p.m. in the Port Seton Community Centre.  All meetings are open to the public. There are usually one or two of the four local councillors and a Community Police Officer in attendance.

The Community Council is funded by East Lothian Council in 3 ways:
1. The Local Priorities Scheme (funding towards community events, Christmas lights, newsletter, etc.);
2. The Community Council Grant Allocation (small grant towards admin costs);
3. The Community Environmental Fund (awards given for specific projects).

This is augmented by our own fund raising efforts and there are also opportunities to bid for funds from other sources.

We have a maximum of 10 community councillors who serve the community. These councillors are elected at the 4 yearly Community Council elections. The AGM is held annually, usually in June, when new office bearers can be nominated. We can co-opt on members to help with certain projects or general work. We also have a small pool of volunteers who help us deliver the newsletter, organise events and fund raising activities.

A community council is an elected, non-party political organisation, existing to represent the views of the community it serves.

We deal with issues such as the environment, safety and well-being, road safety, transport and roads, policing, planning and licensing, relaying the concerns and ideas from the community to local government and public bodies.

We are also involved in arranging or helping with local events and projects.

 You can contact any one of our Community Councillors to discuss an issue using contact us.

If you are interested in joining the Community Council or have a few hours spare to lend a hand then please get in touch - we are always grateful for any support.
